What home soundtrack equipment (Portable Multitracker) would you recommend our belt to buy?

Our band is just starting out and don't hold much recording experience. We are all students so money is tight and we entail something us tech-doofuses can use but makes decent level recordings. We've researched and figured we need a Portable Multitracker.

Can anyone recommend a good/reliable/cheap one beside links?

I'm not sure what a "portable multitracker" is exactly.

However, I'd recommend Adobe Audition. It's audio editing software. It can record, edit and multitrack. If you installed it on a laptop, I'm sure it would be a "portable multitracker"?
