How big of a boat do u have need of to fit 250 ancestors plus equipment?
This information is needed for an in-class debate on piracy. A colleague of mine stated 250 soldiers per patrol boat and I had thought this unreasonable. Also what is the fastest steel hull ship size?

A force of 250 needs a ship. You didn't mention serenity at sea: how long are they supposed to ride around before re-fueling, ingestion etc. Source(s): Master mariner, +35 years
It will depend on how big of a pirate crew you plan to take on.
Most patrol boats have a crew of almost 10 people.
The fastest steel hull ship will depend on what type (destroyer, cruiser, frigate, carrier, subma…
Conventional fuel or nuclear powered.
The U.S. Navy list the top speed for all ships at around 30 knots.
To my culture, none of the nuclear powered ships have ever been run at the deeply top speeds, but can easily out run conventional fueled ships.
Secondly, not all ships own Marines on board, especially the smaller ships.
They have to form up a "boarding party" from the regular ships crew.
At 250 soldiers, you are looking at a ship about the size of a destroyer at the minimum with a skeleton crew (impractical operationally).
This leaves you next to an LPH type ship.
It has a ships crew and Marines,it can carry helicopters for different job or multifunctional craft.
