Is it possible to verbs a VHS to a recordable DVD from home? Do I involve special equipment?

I also need to transfer pictures from different locations (ex: e-mail, kodak easyshare) to one location so that I can e-mail them to someone that will put together the DVD and add music. I need to put the pictures contained by numerical order of when they actually happen.
