my son is 6 and this is his first year playing,on his teams website it says pant,shoulder pads,helmet,mouthguard,is there anything else he should hold,i'd rather be safe than sorry.

chest pad would be good to and also gurdles that go on his hips and butt and also pad for the thighs and knees.
That should cover it. If you want the extra padding you can get thigh, hip and tailbone pad that go inside the pants. But what they are asking should work.
