Why are toys and equipment for the disabled so expensive?

I think they are just profiting from other peoples misfortunes.
I get a 'tfh special needs' cataloge and the prices are so dear and then there is vat and transference on top of that.
Why is there no shops?
Does anyone know and on-line stores etc that are abit more fair?
Answers:
Those things are more expensive because more work goes into designing, developing and researching them. I suspect some of those things are also manufactured in smaller number quantity than toys and equipment that is designed for the mainstream majority and that can increase the costs too. Then of course near higher oil prices in that is extra cost too, like is the case for pretty much anything in our time.

It's a shame those things are so expensive, but I think there are all right explanations for a big part of the cost. Those manufacturers are probably not profiting more than other manufacturer, although they surely make some profit. They're running a business, not a non-profit charity organization, so it's usual that they'd expect at least some profit.
One of the reasons why they are so expensive is due to research, developing, designing, production, media hype, marketing, and delivery.

Another reason why is due to the soaring prices of oil and gasoline. The manufacturer have to recover the increase price of making and delivering a toy, so the factory owner increases the price of the toy to make up for the increase price of making and delivering a toy.
I see some of toys in a genral catalog--and in a special wishes catalog--

the special needs catalog usually charges A LOT more......

they do it because they can-

it is true that some items are specially made--but many purely have terms such as 'language nouns added into the description--and charge a lot more
They cost more because they require extra work in designing and fabricating. The citizens that are profiting right now off of you and I are the Government and the grease companies for these ridiculously high gasoline prices.
To formulate good toys they require good design and work.
It might be join sound inside a ball for someone next to low vision. Or having a hulking button to press for muscle disability
to turn it off and on
As for a cheap toy pins bowling set
As some children with disbility can relish play wii sports games

As for talk machines, computers programs like jaws it a great deal of technique that gone into them.
since they are only a small amount sold, compared to research and manufactoring costs. some one have to pay or make do next to regular stuff.
Law of supply and demand.

A little ingenuity can be in motion a long way. (e.g. wheelchair caster wheels and bearing for $20+/pair vs. using rollerblade wheels or toy "kick scooter" wheel for significantly less.)
