Is it better to buy musical equipment from a local music retailer or a substantial business?

I know mom and pap's stores can have some vintage and rare items, but are they worth it or should I turn out and purchase the latest and most expensive equipment?

I'd agree with the first two - you've could grasp to know the shop mgr/owner over time, have a personal touch on the support you may need/want in the adjectives. big stores aren't known for that.
Both of my brothers play multiple instruments, have used tool shops (both have good eye for condition, unusual wear marks) and own been satisfied.
I always try to support the local business. They can probably acquire anything for you special ordered. They are our friends and neighbors. Keep them in business.
