Where to find a cheap industrial sewing device (w/ table) that can do both straight lockstitch and snaky?
I don't know much about brands, I prefer older simpler machines, pre '80's. How can I find them locally to avoid shipping something so beefy?

Look in the classified ads for auctions. I bought my industrial apparatus at an auction. But be careful--a 3 phase machine will not plug up into a home electrical outlet. You need a 110 volt motor.
You can also poke about e-bay and yahoo, and limit searches to a mile radius that you are prepared to drive.
Also check out yard sales. You would be surprised what will turn up contained by someone's yard.
Bottom line, for cheap and obedient, it will take time and patience.

I know there's a store in my hometown that have a wide variety of machines, from different manufacturer, but the owner will buy used ones, and recondition them.
