Is there such a machine?

Hello Linda S I'm also Linda S! cool! The Merrow company sell machines that do a crochet blanket stitch with yarn. Merrow machines are sturdy little workhorses that ending for years with proper care and care. They are also quite expensive but if you are doing a lot of blankets or *whatevers* later an industrial can be a real time and work saver and a worthy investment.
Here's Merrow's piece of equipment page, one of the models on the top right looks like what you are after, the model numbers 18-S or 18-E Plain Crochet machine look exactly similar to your description.

I believe that Nancy Zieman had this on her show once, I know the Baby Lock Ellegante can do this with the right foot and at the top of my chief I don't remember which foot it is, I think it is the cording foot. You might want to go to a trader that sells different type of machine's and ask. I know since I own the Ellegante that this machine is not cheap, it runs around $5,000. I hope this help some what.
