Wood lathe turning tools-best ones?
I have new Delta( massive size )wood lathe. What are the best brands of high speed steel lathe gouges and chisels? What would you recommend as I don't know which ones to establish or where to order? I want to turn wood bowls and other wood items. Thanks. Ron

I am also an avid wood lathe character.
What i use is regular "ceramic" inserts purchased at my local tool and die supply house. They come in various sizes and shapes and I take-home pay about $2.50 each for them.
I made a mounting tool on a regular 1 inch diameter fiddle with and a metal clamping arrangement on the end. With that I can use any one of these ceramic inserts.
I polish out these earthenware inserts to a micro edge using a diamond wheel raining. You can buy a diamond wheel for around $10 at Lowes or Menards here in midwest.
I dont resembling steel tool, they dont cut clean like these micro polished clay inserts of mine. And,,, if you buy a set of those they will run well over $100 at Sears. Then you have to constantly hone those things lacking much cutting. They dull out so easily .
No comparison surrounded by those steel tools to ceramic inserts. Get some today and it will change your lathe adjectives to the best possible.
