I replaced my weak 5hp 3ph motor surrounded by my lathe near a latest 5hp 1ph motor. How to chain for forward and reverse rota?
I cannot find a drum switch rated for a 5hp 1ph, any other ways to do this?
"> NO,you cannot replace 3 phases motor with single phase motor, because
1. motor voltage is different, never run single phase motor near 3 phases power.
2. single phase motor mostly run in one direction, unless it is a series motor. By reverse either the pen or rotor winding direction, motor can run in reverse direction.
3. series single phase motor does not enjoy constant speed, and its brushes consume very fast. It is not a replacement of 3 phases motor.
Firstly why you want to replace with a single phase motor. In practice 3 phase motors give longer duration. For lathe Single phase motors are not recommended.
In general you can other change the direction of a single phase motor, which is having a Capacitor next to 2 sets of windings. Normally the two windings will be of same capacity and to provide a phase difference to achieve rotation we put Capacitor surrounded by series.
Let us say you have Single Phase motor beside windings 1 and 2. Then let us say you enjoy capacitor in series with roundabout 1. Let us say the motor is rotating in clock sagacious direction. Then if you put the capacitor in series with circuitous 2 will give the motor to rotate in reverse direction. Hope you implied. You can do it with even a contactor circuit.
