Does any one know of any instructor-led seminar or training on different manuf techiques? e.g mill, lathe, etc

I am a mechanical engineer who wishes an overview of traditional mfg techniques as well as on some of the up-to-the-minute ones such as multi-axis lathe, 5 axis CNC, swiss-lathe, edm and etc..

Go to your local college or community college. They may or may not off a seminar. Often the instructor would be more the happy to consent to you sit in on some classes to give you and overview. Source(s): fix
Seminars are a waste of money. They are designed for the owner or VP to give them an notion of what is going on.

I'd suggest talking to a local professor who could direct you to an appropriate text book which would bequeath these answers.
Your best bet is likely to look these processes up on the Internet or go to a half-price book store and see if they can find some antiquated books for you.
The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) may have the closest to what you're looking for.

If you join, you'll be notify of their upcoming exhibitions and they have on-site seminars on a variety of machining methods, as well as books on the subject. I think you'll find the instructor lead training is very expensive, but if you can write it off against your business afterwards it's OK.

Otherwise, the books and on-line information might be enough. You can also grasp some information from the salesmen for this kind of equipement (what the capabilities are, what features they offer). You can attain this information at the exhibition, or better yet, at their showroom when they are not busy. Just tell them you want to know what their mechanism is capable of and have them explain it to you.

ASME and ASM are also resources to find out more specialized and detailed information, but SME is better for broad info. Source(s): http://www.sme.org/cgi-bin/jobadvancemen…
