What is the swing of a lathe?

a) - the angle that the bar spins the chuck
b) the distance between the ways of the lathe machine
c)2x the distance from the axel of the spindle to the closest point on the ways
d) the minimum distance from the axel of the spindle to the ways

none of these take home sense to me. i thought it was the max amount the lathe can spin
Answers:
c is correct. The permitted method of measuring swing is by the maximum diameter of a part that will clear the apparatus.

Not being a machinest. I am assuming the ways are the tracks on the bed. The swing is the distance from the center of the spindle to the ways.
If then you do not certify C as your answer,
oh well....
c)2x the distance from the axel of the spindle to the closest point on the ways
