I bought a wood lathe. I'm using dried wood but my finished product most other splits. what to do?
Answers:
Not all wood is suitable for turning on a lathe. Select a harder wood. Be sure you are not working against the pellet. Your tools need to be absolutely sharp! Take stale only a this layer at a time.
Boy, hold I heard that from some other turners! One lady be complaining that she turned about 5 bowls to get one that didn't split or explode! That be her reason for the cost of the bowls that did turn out correctly.
The wood seems to require newly the exact amount of drying. Too dry and it splits, too moist and it explodes. Just keep trying is my advice.
My hobbies depend on wood turners!! I am a wool spinner and require my spindles to be exactingly accurate.
