I put investigational drywall over the old plaster lath in my home they get rid of a 1/4 " drywall . I had lead paint surrounded by my home its sealed in very soon. you could spray new texture over the old paint . The spray hopper is lower than $100 hook it to a air compressor.
splatter finish or knock down on the walls
pack the crack in the door with a mixture of wood epoxy resin and saw dust then sand it smooth.
Why not just sand it down, as long as the paint is still fixed and not flaking bad? If it is emulsion, you have a problem. (Lots of hard work scrape.) If its oil based paint, next the careful use of a blow or heat light and scraper.
The door can be filled using a proprietary wood filler. If you apply several undercoats, it won't show through. Or you could try one of the hard plaster fillers.
