If you research some of "The Old Yankee Workshop" shows they own a show using a foot/and whip type wood lathe that is massively basic. All you need is a solid support at respectively end of the workpiece and a way to variety it spin. Then you add a tool support so you can control it. This is the very undeveloped wood lathe.
