Why can't they use a unprocessed grease or sea to power hydraulic machinery/elevators?
Why? Because this morning I saw on the news that an elevator malfunctioned and spilled hydraulic grease all over the place. That's a hazard to the environment. Why can't they use another solution?
Answers:
As a matter of fact in attendance are such things as water hydros (elevators that use water as the hydraulic fluid) still contained by service.
Water was the first fluid used to operate elevators and were even designed to use municipal sea pressure to lift the cab. Water hydros use an chemical addition to protect the equipment from corrosion as well as to lubricate the mechanics. Tho no longer installed (as far as I know) there are some still surrounded by use today. Hydraulic oil is just cheaper to use because it does not evaporate resembling water. Natural oil is not remarkably stable and would likely cause undesired operation as all right as need to be replaced frequently.
Well, I know that they cannot use water because it will bring the hydraulic tubes to rust. As for why they don't use other oils.... the hydraulic oil they use most expected contain chemicals that keep the hydraulic pumps moving smoothly, and other natural oil just don't have like properties.
Water is excellent as a hydraulic fluid because it doesn't compress. Its rarely used because it can cause corrosion.
Other oil have the problem of compressing and so don't work.
The other issue is cost. there are probably more environmentally friendly oil that cost more. at the end of the day, here should be no leakage.
