Will a T-junction form between a metal and a p region of a diode?

i mean when a barrier region can form between the p and n region( which have abundant electrons ), why cant a similar region form between the wire you connect to the p region of the diode
"> Barrier region lone exist between the junction of a p-type and n-type material. This phenomenon is due to the recombination of the electrons from the n-type and holes from the p-type. When you connect a p-type and a metal no wall will exist. This is employed only in glorious speed switching diodes like the shottkey or hot-carrier diode.
