How be the Big 4 of Thrash Metal formed?
Who formed it and proclaimed Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax to be the kings of Thrash Metal... what about Exodus, I think they should of be added, one of the best thrash metal bands ever... also, I'm not a big fan of Anthrax, it have some very good instrumentalist, but I don't really resembling the vocals, so for a bonus, how did Anthrax get in to the Big 4... I've hear of Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer before I heard of the Big 4 but not of Anthrax... someone concern to give their view on the tie and how they became in the Big 4 as okay? Sorry for the long question.

Long time ago the first two band get known outside the underground scene be Metallica and Anthrax. Later on Megadeth (thanx to metallica connection?) and Slayer (just took Thrash a little Thrashier and faster) followed. In the 80's Exodus be mainly known as the former group of, and Anthrax had a different vocalist though.
Some say aloud Anthrax populairity was boosted by opening for Ozzy within the US and Iron Maiden in Europe.
Its already been said but I'll read out it again. These are the four most commercially successful thrash metal bands, bands that made it really big. That is why they are the big four. I've never really be a fan of Anthrax either and agree that in attendance are a lot of under appreciated band that deserve to get some credit. Exodus, Testament, Death Angel, Overkill, etc. And lets not forget our friends over surrounded by Europe; Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, etc. As well as Sepultura, which may be a groove metal band in a minute but I would definitely list some of their nearer albums such as Beneath the Remains, Arise, and Chaos A.D as thrash as well. But of course in that can only be four in the Big 4. Source(s): \m/ -_- \m/
It's adjectives about the record sale. Anthrax hit the mainstream with I'm The Man and Bring the Noise. Exodus never really made it to the big-time approaching "the Big 4" did.
They are the better band, though.
And why not replace Megadeth with Testament?
Or Sepultura?
Or Heathen?
Or any of the German Big 3? Destruction, Kreator, Sodom........ Source(s): stifle. Mechanix, Who the fk said to get rid of Megadeth for Exodus?

They were the 4 bands that really humane of created the scene and truly accelerated it to the heights it is today. Exodus is a great tie and could be 4a but their first release was later than the others. As far a Anthrax go, the were and are a great band and IMO worthy of person in the big 4. All 4 are different and their influence is still heard today. My singular knock on Anthrax is they kind of started the Rap/Rock hybrid.

I feel was mainly base on record and concert ticket sales, and those 4 unquestionably owned down on Exodus in those departments (whether rightfully so or not..)
Lol... a lot of ppl can argue that Anthrax if truth be told has the BEST vocals. Joey has a striking voice. They are the big 4 because they were commercially the most successful. I agree there are other great band like Exodus and Overkill and Testament and Sepultura.. but they never went really big.
In my opinion, here is only the big 1!
METALLICA!!
The rest shouldn't even be spoken of in the presence of the word Metallica.
Because of their enormous hanger-on bases.
LOL just because you don't resembling one of the bands dosn't exclude them from the big 4. there's plenty more bands citizens think should be added to the big 4 one would be testament. but exodus never got big, and adjectives the ones listed above are better then exodus anyways..
anthrax deserves to be within there way more after exodus, if you dont like anthrax you can suck it Source(s): edit:HAHHA really seize rid of megadeth for exodus? lol.. and sepultura's good albums are groove not thrash
edit2:jake metallica's first album dave mustaine contributed a good bit to. so even if they did obtain fame off this "connection" to metallica your discussion about its really really tiny compared to mustaine helping metallica.
and the rap/rock hybrid was if truth be told decent when anthrax did it because there be a rap group and a thrash group. but when a single band tried to fuse the two together thats when the problems started.
