Problem near milling gadget?

I have a Sealey (SM2502) mini milling machine. I be using the low gear range to drill a large hole surrounded by mild steel and I believe I may have damaged/sheared the gears. Any advice roughly speaking undertaking a repair (to replace damaged gears). It will not engage properly very soon in the lower gear range although its fine at the large range speed setting (I am worried about bits of the gears cause further damage) I have an exploded drawing of all the components but own not carried this kind of repair before.
