We hold a robotic cell at GVSU that we purchased from an outside company, but i think its setup is similar to what you're looking for.
The cell basically consists of a robotic arm, a conveyor belt, a couple of inductive sensors, and a nightmare system. The cell was designed to teach students fundamentals of programming such a work cell, and as such can be programmed to imitate a lot of different operation.
The primary sample program we have is a simple block sorter. There are several blocks on a ramp inside the cell. The blocks enjoy x's and o'x imprinted on the side. The robot picks up a block and places it on the conveyor, as the rest of the blocks slide down the ramp. It sets the block on the conveyor where one of the inductive sensors read that a block is present and activates the conveyor. A sensor in the middle of the belt is set to sanction the difference in the X and the O and identifies the block. The conveyor turns posterior on, a sensor on the end of the belt shuts it off when the block reach the end, and the robot arm puts the block on the appropriate pallet for X or O.
As I mentioned, the cell is able to be programmed for other things as capably. Right now I'm working on writing up the lab exercises for students to incorporate the vision system into the sorting program.
