How going on for a follow up question too - what happens when the curl stops blowing and your windmill stops? lol Besides, even windmills and solar power require infrastructure buildouts (power stations, power lines etc) to get the wind power to your home/business. The wacko environmentalists will block this buildout too. The green crowd have morphed from Nimby policies (Not in my back yard) to BANANA (Build absolutley nought anywhere near anything). One more thing, if the Democrats contained by Congress and Clinton didn't block drilling in ANWR 13 years ago, that oil would be flowing today. So the greens ought to be ashamed to use that "it'll purloin too long to make a difference" argument.
It may never transpire... The environmentalists don't like wind power because it's unsightly and PETA is worried around the birds getting hurt so that's not going to fly. They don't like Nuclear because of the eminent meltdown and the rubbish. They don't like hydro because the fish might be inconvenienced. The technology for hydrogen is still very far sour and by the time it gets here they will realize water vapor is worse than the dreaded CO2 when it comes to AGW.
So I'm guessing never. Besides, if they did permit it come to fruition they would have nothing to b*tch almost.
Truth is, if congress will get off their collective a** and bring back out of the way we could be benefiting from domestic production in as little as 3 years. Just letting the world know that's what we're going to do would force OPEC to increase production because they know once we start they will soon be out of business.

I've been reading that oil well in CA waters are 1 year from production...If the Democrats will stop the blocking games.
It will take a short time ago as long for the "Green" sources to come on line. Course if the "Green" sources worked my guess is we would have be using them already. Wind is inconsistent, solar only works in the daylight (obviously), hydro-electric is not surrounded by all areas, etc, etc. Course the greenies forget these little facts.
I would say it's going to take rather a bit longer since we don't even have a 'green' energy source, even so. An alternative is fine, but don't hang us out to dry in the meantime..

All of the research into chemical and catalytic reactions has be done years ago... It just needs to package into a viable, 24/7 reliable, affordable form.
Doesn't look promising. Anytime I see anything on the green machines to come, it refers to the future. I tried to invest within battery companies in 1991, as I anticipated electric cars to be the norm today. Glad I didn't invest.
