How do I use sports car battery to power AC equipment?

I have a large inflatable that I am currently powering beside a generator, but I would like to use car battery as a back-up source. The start-up wattage is 800 and the continuous run wattage is about 500. How many vehicle batteries would I need to power this and how would I set them up?

You would call for an inverter of at least 800 W. You can find them at auto supply stores or on line. You might go and get about one hour of running at 500 w per car freestyle. Ideally you would use deep cycle batteries that are made to be discharged more or smaller quantity completely before being recharged. Batteries used surrounded by cars are designed for short bursts of high power (for starting) but do not respond well to repeated vast discharges.
