What type of equipment should I use for western gaming?
I am moving my horse to a barn that does gaming shows a few times a month so I thought perhaps I'll try it. I've ridden english all my enthusiasm so I don't know much about western saddles. I used to own a huge show saddle but it was so bulky/uncomfortable and I couldn't keep my foot in the stirrups. I feel totally comfortable in my English Saddle!!
Since I plan on getting another western saddle that's less bulky and smaller, I'm wanting to go and get something that might be good for both gaming and trail riding. What kind do you recomend? (round shirt, square skirt, synthetic, leather). I don't enjoy alot to spend either. Whats the best types of bits to use? My Fjord isn't neck reined, so we would simply be doing using two hands (I'm doing this for fun, not to win). What type of boots? Should the reins be split or connected (like english reins). Any advice on tack and equipment would be great. thankyou!

you can use just regular cowboy boots, try a charmayne james bit they works amazing, and you call for a barrel racing saddle beside a deep seat and a flawless horn. and you also need barrel race reins dont use split reins. you also need bell boots and just regular leg boots. Source(s): im a gamer
Yes cordura is a great saddle brand, i own one that i use for barrel racing and trail riding. Synthetic is the best that i enjoy used so far. Boots? just regular cowboy boots work fine. It doesn't matter if you tie or go the reins just do what makes you and your horse more comfortable. Tack? i would suggest getting a western bridle, but use a peaceable bit to begin with. Also a breast collar will come within handy. good luck
Sounds close to you have saddle advice. Most gamers use what are call "roping reins," and are usually short enough to be held at the end, similar to what would be the buckle on your english reins. Direct reining is fine, most gamers do a version of direct reining anyway.

I am particularly fond of the "beetle" and the "little S," especially the leather nose version of the little S. STAY AWAY from that "stop and turn" that is a VERY SEVERE BIT.
