How does using radiation to sterilise medical Equipment work ?
i think the radiation mutates the cells , does this murder them because they cannot function properly ? how does it work ? (try to use simple language as i get confused smoothly THANK YOU)
Answers:
The energy of the radiation changes the molecules contained by the cell, and creates free radicals and other excited molecules. The large amount of hose down (H2O) contained in any cell gets broken into H and OH, which are strong reducing agents and oxidizing agents respectively. With so several strongly reactive chemicals in the cell body, harmful chemical reaction are bound to happen, which destroys the cell. Source(s): http://www.chemcases.com/nuclear/nc-14.h…
