What gym equipment should I use for an all-round forceful workout and inevitability a diet too.?

I am planning on starting up at the gym as of next month, a little silly really considering it's christmas and we adjectives usually binge on food anyway, but do any of you have any ideas what equipment, how long for, and what proclaim I should use the gym effectively in?

P.s I am a 16 year old girl who could do next to a reasonable diet to lose about a stone or two and preference to tone up. Mainly legs and to lose weight on my arms. I do not want muscly arms, just slim ones.

Pps. Also.. a recommended diet, i will also be greatly grateful for.
