Chemistry Question - What equipment could be used (instead of a Bunsen burner) to control warmth?

I am writing up a chemistry experiment. In this report, one of the experiments I carry out is heating a substance next to a bunsen burner. However, my teacher said that there is better apparatus than this that could be used to control heat. Any suggestions?
Answers:
wet bath is good.

hot plates use resistive heaters, some next to magnetic stirrers for stirring liquids
Hot hose down baths and oil baths are common. The most adjectives however is an electrical heater. They have slickly adjustable temperatures. Basically it is a plate of metal that heats up to a set heat, then you can put metal blocks on top of it that will also after heat up to near that heat and can be the right shape to surround and transfer heat effectively to your impulse vessel. This is what we usually use in chemistry labs at uni because they are pretty simple and easy to use, enjoy adjustable temperatures, and are less promising to set fire to flammable reagents/solvents/people!
Your teacher is correct; the use of Bunsen burners in modern laboratories have largely been replaced by more modern (and safer) methods of heating materials.

Apart from the already mentioned hot plates, hot hose down baths and oil baths there are abundant other methods of heating. The choice of method depends on the temperature you want to undertake.

Heating mantles:
Heating mantles may enjoy various forms. In a common arrangement, electric wires are deep-seated within a strip of fabric that can be wrapped around a flask or is within a pre-formed backet. The current supplied to the device, and hence the temperature achieved, is regulated by a rheostat.

Hotplate stirrer:
These are a combined stirrer and a hotplate on which a container near a heat transfer textile is placed. This material can be water, mineral grease or silicone oil depending on the temperature required. Below 50-70°C, river can be used. Temperatures up to 250°C would require silicone oil. Heated metal blocks can be placed on a hotplate stirrer for higher temperature.

Woods metal baths
Wood's metal, an alloy of bismuth, lead, tin, and cadmium, with a melt temperature of 70°C (158°F). There are even lower melting alloys that can be used.

Heat gun:
If you want directed/focused grill and a close replacement for a Bunsen burner, a heat gun is your answer. The hot air flow of a warmth gun is less dangerous than a nude flame although it can still cause highly inflammable items to block fire, crack glass and injury if directed onto skin.
Standard models can be used for temperatures within the range 100-550°C (200-1000°F). Some hotter models can run around 760°C (1400°F).

One great advantage is that the grill is almost instantaneous so the heat gun can be switched off during pause in the work while the flame of Bunsen burner has the inconvenience of need to be relit if the flame is extinguished. We routinely use heat guns in our laboratory unless we stipulation to work with fused glass where on earth Robert Wilhelm Bunsen invention is still very useful.

depends on the temperature you want - illustrious temps need bunsen but lower could use electrical heater
Water bath is good as powerfully, and is better than a bunsen burner because a bunsen will give a very focussed warmth, whereas a bath will have a extremely stable heat that can be applied from every direction where the wet is in contact with that i.e. being heated.
