What are the regulations contained by the US in connection with personal/homeschool use of lab equipment/supplies?
We're planning to homeschool our children in science in NYS.
I know that copious of the supplies traditionally available to the amateur chemist (even some glassware, balances, water baths) own been removed from the market due to sundry concerns, but I'm worried that many of these might remain unavailable to us as home educator as well. I come from a scientific circumstance and don't want to shortchange my kids.
So I guess I have two questions:
1) What sorts of supplies usually found within a high school chem/biology setting will we *not* know how to use at home, period?
2) Will we be able to purchase needed supplies for demos/experiments a la carte directly from lab suppliers as home educator, same as for a public school science lab?
We don't want to use only prepackaged kit but were very disappointed by the chemistry sets immediately on the market for home use! Any information about regulations and individual experiences near with teaching chemistry and cell bio, etc. at home is appreciated.

The supplies available for home use are very restricted if you want to do high school stratum Chemistry at home. This is because many chemicals which are mild individually can become dangerous if mixed together surrounded by the wrong combinations.

Most home conservatory curricula won't require the difficult chemicals, because they know parents are teaching the classes. I know you want more than the basics, but at smallest you will be able to fulfill course requirements.

When I've browsed around on online science education catalogs, I've seen resume like "will only ship to registered schools", etc. However, surrounded by most states, HS's are considered private schools, so you could really argue that with them if you be questioned.
In my former state, we had both a science tuition and a general education supply store - any could order whatever we looked-for that wasn't available online.

The best suggestion for this would be to talk to the local community college. Many community colleges will allow middle and dignified school level homeschoolers to steal classes such as chemistry. Some community colleges even offer these classes specifically for homeschoolers. I would check around to see what is available. Also, in some states, districts will allow homeschoolers to nick a class at the local schools...you can check to see if that applies in your nouns.
Otherwise, you will be very limited contained by what chemicals you can purchase for use as a homeschooler. This is partially due to increased security issues locally and partially because in selling to actual public or private school, the company is provided with verification of within being a lab with the needed and appropriate tools, sanctuary protocols and trained personell. If youor yor husband have any formal education/training/certification in chemistry, I would suggest contacting the companies directly to see if this would kind the difference. Otherwise, the suggestions above will likely be the best to get the plane of experience you want your children to have.
