Why aren't ski type equipment used for surfing?

Why isn't skis used to surf the ocean waves to some extent than a surf board?

Would you not get more control and balance by independently using both legs?

Also, at hand would be less chance of a shark attack as skis won't look nil like a seal.

i hope you are joking but if you arent it would be impossible to push your way and pop up on a pair of skis, skis wouldnt have ample surface area and if they did they would be too big and hard to control, you also dont walk straight in on a wave so the skis would be really complex to use because it would be like standing sideways on a hill.
Skis don't hold the vast surface a surf board has, and besides skis are much heavier and more dense than a surf board. Skis are made of denser things, while a surf board is made out of fiberglass a much lighter and more bouyant than skis. Try this comparison, lift a surf board, then raise a pair of skis. Notice how much heavier the skis are.
