Are soldiers allowed to buy and use their own equipment? (USA)?
I was never sure about this one. I know soldiers are issued adjectives the equipment they need, but are they permitted to buy and use their own? And I mean anything from a simple canteen to body armor or even their own primary weapon. Is this allowed?
Yes it would be expensive but someone near the money might want something "better"...

No. I remember audible range a few years ago that a group gathered hundreds of kevlar vests, but that the US government wouldn't allow them to be sent to our troops over within Iraq. War is a RACKET. There's a company who makes bullet proof vests who is profiting from our being at period of war and receiving government contracts, so unsurprisingly they're going to be opposed to our troops being competent buy their own equipment. If you've never read it, check out General Smedley Butler's book "War is a Racket". It's a real eye-opener.
Some stuff you can buy which brought the permanent status "Geardo" people would spend a lot of money on gear ie sunglasses gloves
extra molle pack, but as far as a main weapon or body armor no you are not allowed to upgrade yourself which i am sure some own, just not out in the plain
*EDIT*you can buy your own scope, you just cant buy a Tommy gun and tote it around the streets of Baghdad
Not sure if it's allowed but I have heard of some soldiers or even relations members buying their own armored vests a few years ago when there be a problem with some vests that had to be recall.
You will have to wear confident things outside the wire like a kevlar and IBA. I be in an MI unit and we have people who put all kind of different tactical vests on top of their IBA, had different holsters for their pistols, enhanced CamelBaks, etc...
so if your issued a rifle with iron verbs you cant go and buy your own acog scope
negative on the weapon but it depends on unit S.O.P. i know as far as body armor and assaults pack and stuff like that we can
My son-in-law is in Iraq right now (3rd tour).
During his first tour he did not enjoy adequate body Armour nor did his squad. Through private donations we secured proper body Armour for his squad.
He does buy his own gloves, eye protection and re hydration systems.
Please pray for all our troops!
Peace,
Will
